Halal Development Corporation Berhad (HDC) is pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Peruvian Commission for the Promotion of Exports and Tourism (PROMPERU). This significant event took place in conjunction with the Honourable Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s official visit to Peru from 13 to 16 November 2024.
The MoU exchange ceremony was held on 13 November 2024, at the Government Palace in Lima, Peru. The document exchange was conducted by His Excellency Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Malaysia, and Her Excellency Mrs. Úrsula Desilú León Chempén, Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Peru. The ceremony was witnessed by the Honourable Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, and Her Excellency Mrs. Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra, President of Peru.
This collaboration comes as part of the Prime Minister of Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Peru. The MoU aims to establish a basis of understanding between PROMPERÚ and HDC to jointly contribute their respective knowledge, experience, and technical capabilities to promote the growth of the Halal industry.
The Honourable Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s official visit to Peru includes attending the 31st Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Week (AELW) from 14 to 16 November 2024, in Lima. During the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting held on 16 November 2023, in San Francisco, United States, Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar expressed his commitment to assisting President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra in facilitating Halal certification for Peruvian products, as Malaysia’s Halal certification is recognized worldwide.
The Exchange of Document ceremony signifies the aspiration to strengthen bilateral relations on the Halal agenda between Malaysia and Peru. The purpose of the MoU is to promote the growth of the Halal industry by providing training and consultancy services, creating market access opportunities for Malaysian companies, and enhancing Malaysia’s position as a global Halal reference centre.
Malaysia’s collaboration with Peru in the Halal industry is very much aligned with the country’s Halal Industry Master Plan 2030 (HIMP 2030) Strategic Thrust 2, which focuses on the internationalization agenda of creating new and bigger market spaces for Malaysia’s Halal products and services. This partnership is expected to have a direct impact on the economic sector, including exports, tourism, and foreign direct investment.
