Today at the DSA & NATSEC ASIA 2024, MIMOS Berhad and G7 Aerospace Sdn. Bhd (G7A) formalised their collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This agreement aims to establish an Indigenous Systems Integration Capability within Malaysia’s aerospace ecosystem. Witnessed by the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), YB Dato’ Haji Mohammad Yusof bin Apdal, the MoU was signed by Dr Saat Shukri Embong, Acting President and Chief Executive Officer of MIMOS Berhad, and Datuk Rosdi bin Mahmud, Chief Executive Officer of G7 Aerospace.
This strategic partnership underscores a shared commitment to bolstering Malaysia’s capabilities in aerospace technology, promoting technological advancements, and fostering high-value activities in the sector. The collaboration will explore multiple avenues including participation in the Industrial Technology Innovation Centre (ITIC) programme managed by MIMOS, joint R&D projects focused on avionic parts innovation, capacity building through training and knowledge transfer, and tailored projects in the Electronics and Electrical (E&E) avionic sector.
Dr Saat Shukri Embong expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “As the nation’s premier technology solutions provider, MIMOS is eager to collaborate with industry stakeholders to elevate Malaysia’s aerospace industry from downstream to upstream services, aligning with the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030 and the Malaysia Aerospace Industry Blueprint 2030 developed by MITI and MIGHT.”
Datuk Rosdi bin Mahmud also remarked on the significance of this collaboration, “This collaboration between G7 Aerospace and MIMOS marks a significant milestone in our journey towards innovation and excellence in Malaysia’s aerospace landscape. With a shared commitment to pioneering indigenous systems integration capabilities, we are proud to revolutionise the way defence solutions are approached. This partnership not only emphasises our dedication to advancing Malaysia’s aerospace capabilities but also highlights our collective vision for driving technological sovereignty and economic prosperity through innovation. With hope and anticipation, we look forward to the transformative outcomes that lie ahead as we embark on this collaborative journey.”
This partnership provides MIMOS with a unique opportunity to drive significant advancements within the Malaysian aerospace industry by enabling Proof-ofConcept activities through the ITIC programme. This key initiative allows MIMOS to support industry players in rigorously testing and refining their technologies before commercialisation, effectively accelerating innovation and shortening the timeto-market for new products.
Aligned with the strategic objectives of the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030 and the Malaysia Aerospace Industry Blueprint 2030, this collaboration is specifically designed to enhance economic security and bolster the resilience and competitiveness of Malaysia’s manufacturing ecosystems. By fostering such strategic partnerships, MIMOS contributes to sustainable industrial growth and job creation across the sector and enhances its role as a catalyst in transforming Malaysia into a globally recognised hub in aerospace technology and innovation.
G7 Aerospace (G7A) will play a pivotal role by leveraging their expertise in avionic maintenance services, thus bolstering both upstream and downstream capabilities. Their involvement will enhance the overall quality and reliability of aerospace services and products throughout Malaysia. As part of a comprehensive strategy, G7A will focus on understanding customer needs for avionics upgrades, preparing design documentation for system integration and airworthiness certification, investing in the necessary hardware and software for prototypes, and marketing the solution to potential end-users and customers. This holistic approach aims to build industry-wide expertise and position Malaysia as a premier hub in the global aerospace industry.
