PCG Continues Be Green Programme

PCG continues Be Green Programme for the second year in Indonesia.

PETRONAS Chemicals Group Berhad (PCG) recently carried out beach clean-up and mangrove planting activities with community members at Desa Muara Teluk Naga, Banten, continuing its flagship social impact programme, Be Green, in Indonesia for the second year running.

This year’s activities reinforce the Company’s commitment to address the environmental challenge of plastic pollution and empower the community to take an active role in preserving the environment.

“The Be Green programme expansion beyond Malaysia signals continued progress on our commitment to plastic waste management. When used and disposed of responsibly, plastic is not the culprit; it is a valuable resource. Through Be Green, we aim to empower more individuals with knowledge on plastics and responsible waste management, aligning with PCG’s New Plastics Economy agenda. We remain dedicated to fostering positive habits and contributing to the development of a generation for whom sustainable living is second nature,” said Mazuin Ismail, PCG’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer.

PCG expanded Be Green to Indonesia for the first time in 2023, with a sharing session on the proper use and handling of plastics with students from the University of Indonesia, and a plogging activity in Jakarta during the city’s Car Free Day.

Through its subsidiary, PT PCM Kimia Indonesia, PCG is continuing its collaboration with community members in Desa Muara Teluk Naga to implement various Be Green initiatives, including the collection of ocean-bound waste. PCG will also educate community members on its Plastic, Sustainability & You Education (PSYE) module to increase awareness about sustainable plastic practices and effective waste management.

“We are thrilled to support PCG’s Be Green programme for the second year running in Indonesia, following the encouraging interest shown by Indonesians in Be Green last year. We believe that by working with local communities, we can equip more people with knowledge on plastics and responsible waste management, and contribute to the reduction of plastic waste, in alignment with Indonesia’s Policy Development Roadmap for Waste Reduction (2020 – 2029),” said Nurfarizam Chik, CEO of PT PCM Kimia Indonesia.

Be Green, established in 2013, aims to create positive impact on the society through education and collaborative recycling activities. PCG promotes responsible waste management and 3R (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) principles through engagements with schools and surrounding local communities in PCG’s areas of operations. This is in line with PCG’s New Plastics Economy (NPE) agenda and social impact strategy, while contributing to the global transition towards circular economy.

Be Green is also in line with one of PETRONAS’ social impact pillars – Planting Tomorrow – which focuses on educating young minds on the importance of biodiversity and sustainable living.
