NanoMalaysia And Serdang Paste Tech Develop Organic Carbon Nanotube (CNT) Conductive Paste

NanoMalaysia And Serdang Paste Tech announce development of Organic Carbon Nanotube (CNT) Conductive Paste.

NanoMalaysia Berhad (NMB) and Serdang Paste Technology Sdn Bhd have partnered to announce the successful development of an Organic Carbon Nanotube (CNT) Conductive Paste. This innovative electronic paste offers a solution for painting or screen-printing electronic components, enabling precise designs and patterns. It is non-toxic, environmentally friendly, and dries at low temperatures.

The collaboration aims to address the growing demand from the electronic and educational sectors by improving scale-up processes and machinery on the said intermediate advanced materials. The long-term goal involves establishing a new factory to reformulate and investigate the potential of organic conductive paste on a larger scale, focusing on performance and formulation towards a more accessible, affordable, and sustainable local supply chain.

NanoMalaysia Berhad CEO Dr Rezal Khairi Ahmad said, “The conductive paste market has showcased remarkable growth and potential, with global market revenue reaching approximately USD 2.5 billion in 2020. The project’s impact extends to the public and businesses by providing increased access to affordably localised carbon nanotube-based paste technology thus enhancing societal well-being through high jobs creation and new lifestyle solutions. The environmentally friendly nature of conductive inks or pastes connects to both local CNT production initiative and end-customer solutions venture to complete the value chain, and consequently contributes to sustainability efforts, reduces harmful materials, and creates high-value employment across research and development, manufacturing, and distribution sectors, boosting the economy and society.”

The Organic Conductive Paste based on Carbon NanoTubes (OCP-CNTs) developed by Serdang Paste Technology offers tailored electrical properties for specific applications. It enables printing on various substrates, including plastics and textiles, without cracking or breaking. The low processing temperature makes it suitable for temperature-sensitive substrates, and its eco-friendly nature allows easy disposal.

Serdang Paste Technology Sdn Bhd CEO Muhammad Asnawi Mohd Kusaimi expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration: “We are excited to introduce the Organic Carbon Nanotube Conductive Paste, a breakthrough innovation that opens doors to a wide range of applications. Our collaboration with NMB signifies our commitment to pushing the boundaries of technology and delivering sustainable solutions to meet market demands.”

According to market forecasts, the conductive paste market is expected to continue its upward trajectory, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 6% from 2021 to 2028. This growth can be attributed to the increasing demand for printed electronics, IoT devices, and photovoltaic cells, among other applications. By 2025, the market is projected to reach a value of USD 3.2 billion, growing at a CAGR of 4.1% during the forecast period of 2020-2025. The rising demand for printed electronics, IoT devices, photovoltaic cells, electric vehicles, and the growing trend of wearable devices drives this growth.

Incorporating OCP-CNTs further enhances electronics such as transistors, sensors, and displays, resulting in faster and more efficient devices that improve productivity and user experience. The project also explores flexible and wearable electronics, allowing for devices that conform to different shapes and integrate into textiles, offering convenience, comfort, and improved quality of life. Additionally, it conducts research and development programs that contribute to well-being, such as integrating OCP into flexible solar cells for clean energy solutions and enhancing water purifiers and smart trolleys.

Conductive pastes, including RFID tags, sensors, and flexible displays, are vital in producing printed electronics. The focus market for the Organic CNT Conductive Paste includes printed electronics, photovoltaics, the automotive industry, and consumer electronics. They are also essential in creating electrical contacts for solar cells, manufacturing printed circuit boards, touch screens, and electronic components used in automobiles, smartphones, tablets, and laptops.

On of top being coherent to Malaysia MADANI’s sustainability, creativity and prosperity pillars, the project aligns with PRECISE, an initiative recently introduced by the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI) to develop the nation’s Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) industries. PRECISE focuses on People-centric approaches, Research and Development, Enculturation, Capacity building, Investment, and the Startup Ecosystem.
